Hi! The blog is still quiet and I am still off work as I continue to recover from a broken arm. I feel better every day.

Hopefully I'll have more posts here next month.

Well, barring a miracle the Stephen Harper government is going to fall tomorrow on a Liberal no-confidence motion, which means we are into a federal election.

Why these guys won't all get along in Parliament, I don't know. It seems to me this election promises to be a waste of time for everyone. In my view this is a case of three very bitter opposition parties, still mad over losing the 2008 election, flexing their muscles. They now accuse Harper's government of contempt for Parliament, but any contempt from the government side seems absolutely outweighed by the utter contempt the opposition has for the government. How the heck can Harper possibly work with this group of people? They'll have nothing good to say about his government, regardless of what numbers or documents the Conservatives provide them.

Oh, well. Get ready for weeks on end of attack ads on hockey broadcasts in this country. The campaign is on.

Well, this is a sad day for the folks in charge at your favorite supermarket tabloids.

That is because the endless source of material for all those publications, Elizabeth Taylor, has died. At least now we won't have any more stories counting down her "sad last days".

Is this ever a big week for news, or what? Everything is happening all at once. We're even going to have an election here in frozen Canada.

Well, the good news is that the news channels have eased up on the sad coverage of the situation in Japan. Instead, they have amped up their coverage of the situation in Libya. The missiles are flying as we speak.

Me, I'm just watching hoops and MLS soccer -- not much else for me to do right now.

What an utter disaster -- the 8.9 earthquake and tsunami, and now this -- possible nuclear meltdown.

Sorry for the lack of posts here lately, due to an arm injury sustained last week that has pretty much put me out of action. Expect things to be quiet around here for a while.

Also now officially out of action -- Charlie Sheen, shown waving a machete after being fired Monday from Two and a Half Men.

Well, it never seems to fail. Right now the two top stories in the world are (a) uprisings in the Middle East, and (b) Charlie Sheen. It seemed to me that over a month ago, when I was in Las Vegas on my trip, these were also the top two stories -- except now the situation in Egypt has been replaced by the situation in Libya, and the protests are now aimed not at the relatively mild-mannered despot Hosni Mubarak but that crazed lunatic Moammar Qadhafi!

All I will say is that the US, and in fact most world leaders generally, would be definitely happy to see Qadhafi go. The problem is that he is so nuts that there is all kinds of damage he could do before Libya is rid of him. He's about as bad as the guy who's in charge of North Korea! But anyway, that's a subject for another day. Tonight, we focus on the situation with Sheen, and I guess the first question is: who's the bigger lunatic, Sheen or Qadhafi? I dunno, it seems like a close race.

As you know Sheen ranted against Two and a Half Men producer Chuck Lorre, and that led to CBS halting production for the rest of the season. Now Sheen has been on the TV talk show circuit talking to all these big important news shows like 20/20. In fact, 9.3 million watched the other night. Sheen was also on the Today show for three days in a row.

But you know why we are at this point? Because Sheen is out of control, trashing his bosses and running around with hookers and generally embarrassing himself. I notice a Winnipeg-based website has gone viral with Sheen-isms and other of his rants. What's sad is that his latest rants, the ones that took down his show, came just after he went into rehab to supposedly straighten out his life!

Now, today, we get the latest news that he has lost custody of his kids.  Sheen's life is a mess.

It's getting to be sad and pathetic, and we really need to see some sort of intervention happen with Sheen, because one of two things will happen otherwise -- (1) he'll end up dead or (2) he'll end up in prison. Or maybe both will happen. I just see Sheen being on the wrong end of some O.J. Simpson-esque trial one of these days.

It's sad for him, but doubly sad for fans of Two and a Half Men, because that was actually a pretty good show. And now that show's basically down the tubes, all because the star of the show wouldn't shut up.

Sheen, get your act back together, man. Some people are actually pulling for you to succeed.
