One of the things the CBC does right is comedy. They have a long and illustrious history of showing comedy shows, from Wayne and Shuster to SCTV, to Kids in the Hall and This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

I'm watching Comedy Gold right now, and it's a big 2-part epic salute to and look back at the whole recent history of comedy in Canada. I'm really enjoying watching it and hope they rerun it at some point, it's darned good. Right now it's profiling Tom Green. Funny stuff.

They have this comedy stuff going all week with some more shows and pilots. Then on Saturday it's Hockey Day in Canada. Don Cherry should be good for a few laughs, at least. I say this should be a big week for the CBC in the TV ratings. This is exactly the kind of stuff the CBC ought to be doing on a regular basis: populist entertainment.

I'm also flipping over to check out the bowl games from the USA. The Sugar Bowl is on, from Atlanta. ( Atlanta?! )
